General Presentation
The Separation and Alerting Systems (SAS) team, as part of the R&D domain, is responsible for activities on:
-
Ground and airborne safety nets
- monitoring and development of the requested modifications to enhance the safety level provided by the ACAS/TCAS ((Airborne Collision Avoidance System / Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System) in the European airspace;
- Studies ahead of emerging new airborne collision avoidance tools and features
- Studies focused on the evaluation and the assessment of performance requirements for «short term conflict alert (STCA)» aiming at European harmonization and eventually European standards
-
The ASAS concept (Airborne Separation Assistance System), which general principle is to first enhance the flight crew's traffic awareness, and then to prepare for the transfer the task to maintain separation between two aircraft to the flight crew
- studies on airborne applications using ADS-B, e.g. ATSAW (Air Traffic Situational AWareness) and ASPA (ASAS SPacing, Sequencing and Merging);
- participation to RFG (Requirement Focus Group) and to the CASCADE programme (CRISTAL Projects, Validation Focus Group)
- studies on airborne applications using ADS-B, e.g. ATSAW (Air Traffic Situational AWareness) and ASPA (ASAS SPacing, Sequencing and Merging);
